Alright, last night and the opening weekend has not gone as planned. I own up to it and it will be turned around, that’s why the negative record and unit numbers are plastered at the very top of this post. Let’s get it goin!
8:00 / ESPN | #25 Tennessee v. Georgia Tech | Tennessee -3, O/U 55
Georgia Tech is getting essentially a home game here as this will be played downtown in the new Falcons stadium but there is a see of Tennessee orange in downtown Atlanta at the moment. This is a matchup of a team that consistently underachieves against a team that normally overachieves, both of which are breaking in a new QB. Under center for Tech’s triple option is likely to be JR TaQuon Marshall (5-10,185) but Matthew Jordan could see some time, as well. Top RB, Dedrick Mills, is out for this contest but the depth is there to keep this option offense humming throughout. Tennessee has Kirkland out at MLB but the size and speed are there in the front 7 to keep this Tech running game in check. Obviously the key will be for Tennessee to hold Tech’s high powered rushing attack in check on early downs to get them behind schedule and allow their pass rushers to tee off on this weak GT passing attack. Tennessee has had an entire offseason to get ready for this Triple Option attack so I expect them to be ready to tee off. I love the offensive line for Tennessee and some playmakers will emerge early on offense, particularly John Kelly at RB and Jauan Jennings and Tyler Byrd in the passing game. At QB we will be seeing a newby in Quinten Dormady who I expect big things from behind a great offensive line and strong running game. The awesome recruiting classes from Butch Jones will finally start paying off tonight, especially on both lines of scrimmage to allow this team to look like a real contender in the SEC East. Take Tennessee.
