First, let’s revisit Boxing Day. I made some really bad pivots after team news and ended up losing money. The good news, the article was all over the nuts. If you played my highlighted player from each $$ tier you made money. It’s as easy as that.
LESSON? Don’t get too cute. We put hours of research in for a reason. Unfortunately these managers make ridiculous tactical decisions and leave out obvious plays. This ruined my main team. I had Lingard and Gray as low cost goal scorers and when neither started it was back to square 1. Lingard came on to score 2 goals and rescue a point for United.
Enough about that, let’s make some money this weekend.
First thing of note: All home games. Chelsea, United and Liverpool all at home. How do we start eliminating players?
Let’s start with Zlatan. He looked decent in the 45 minutes on Boxing Day but I can’t put my money behind him just yet. He gone.
Hazard doesn’t quite have the same impact when Morata is in the first 11. I expect him to start so let’s consider that when thinking about Hazard.
Lukaku has been hot and cold all year. Surprisingly, he’s been PLAYING well but not necessarily contributing with an end product as often as he’d like. He’s a good, low owned option but not the top of the tier.
Salah is a MONSTER. He’s so fast. So skilled. Always involved in the final third.
Coutinho is quality personified.
Morata has the best matchup against a Stoke team that can’t stop conceding goals.
TIER 1: Morata, Coutinho, Salah, Lukaku, Hazard
Mane put up an absolute sinker on Boxing Day.
Richarlison gets a great matchup v a Swansea team that has a new manager and will be looking to impress.
Pogba loses influence when Zlatan starts. The team news will be KEY.
Firmino is the go to in this tier. He’s playing the #9 team on Liverpool which means points points points.
Lingard should get the start and is VERY hot.
TIER 2: Firmino, Lingard, Richarlison, Pogba, Mane
Miki is coming back into form and while he didn’t really influence the result, I liked what I saw from him on Boxing Day. Keep an eye on team news and if he starts, you can go there.
Sigurdsson is keeping up his influence under Allardyce.
Ritchie is in a GREAT spot against relegation zone Brighton.
Roo is in play if he gets the start. He hasn’t played the last 2/3 with an illness.
Gudmundsson has won us all some money this year but his influence faded earlier this week. I think he gets back on track here v a Huddersfield team that isn’t afraid to go forward.
Mooy is on penalty duty and tends to perform against teams outside of the top 5.
TIER 3: Rooney, Ritchie, Mooy, Gudmundsson, Miki
What a weird tier. There are some QUALITY players here.
Shaqiri is playing really well of late and while the matchup isn’t great, he should be on set piece duty.
Mahrez can’t be stopped and we all know Liverpool isn’t great at the back.
Gross is a bit off the pace lately. I’m fading.
Alonso is probably the play. He gets forward a ton and scored on Boxing Day. Can’t wait to chase those points.
Ashley Young is another who should benefit from the matchup. He gets forward well and he will absolutely have chances here.
Bolasie is one to watch moving forward but I’m not going there.
TIER 4: Mahrez, Alonso, Young, Shaqiri, Mata
Niasse hasn’t started a game in ages.
Shaw has been playing very well but will he get the start again?
Holebas is a safe, cash game type of play. He gets in a billion crosses per game.
Alexander-Arnold has a high ceiling but I don’t know that he can get to value here.
Blind rarely plays but may have ownership here.
I’ve played Tom Ince so many mother fucking times it makes me sick. Of course I don’t roster him the one week he scores. He is averaging over 3 shots a game. You can go there.
TIER 5: Holebas, Shaw, Ince, Alexander-Arnold, Fraser
I’m a Zappacosta mark. Conte is not. Of course, if he doesn’t start we can’t go there.
Cleverley is very solid and influential in the final third.
Depoitre is hot but will he start?
Quaner finally got on the stat sheet with an assist.
Robertson is in play and should start.
Calver-Lewin is a tourney winning type of play. He’s capable of putting up a 0 but if he scores you are sitting pretty at low ownership.
TIER 6: Zapacosta, Robertson, Cleverly, Quaner, Depoitre, Atsu
